Agostino Bonalumi
Formed in technical and mechanical design, Agostino Bonalumi (Vimercate, 1935 – Monza, 2013) held his first solo exhibition in Milan in 1956. Shortly after, he began collaborating with Enrico Castellani and Piero Manzoni, taking part in the Azimuth group and developing his concept of the “object-painting” under the influence of Lucio Fontana.
From 1959 his work gained international recognition, with exhibitions in Rotterdam, Rome, Paris, Lausanne and strong ties to the German Zero movement. He participated in major international events such as the Venice Biennale (1966, 1970), the São Paulo Biennial (1967) and the Paris Biennale.
Over the following decades, Bonalumi’s practice was the subject of numerous solo and group shows worldwide, culminating in several retrospectives in the 2000s.
