Christo & Jeanne Claude

Christo Javacheff (1935, Bulgaria – 2020, New York) and Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guillebon (1935, Morocco – 2009, Paris) are celebrated worldwide for their monumental, site-specific projects that radically transformed landscapes, monuments, and urban spaces.

They met in Paris in 1958 and soon began creating their first “wrapped objects,” ordinary items enveloped in fabric and string. From there, their vision expanded to entire landmarks, reimagining the relationship between art, architecture, and the environment.

Among their most iconic works are Valley Curtain (Colorado, 1971), Ocean Front (Newport, 1974), The Wall (Rome, 1975), and Umbrellas (1991), which simultaneously installed 3,000 giant umbrellas across Japan and the United States. Their projects, always temporary yet unforgettable, remain milestones in contemporary art.
