Rinaldo Bigi

Rinaldo Bigi

Rinaldo Bigi was born in Pietrasanta, near the famous Carrara marble quarries—a material that would later define much of his work.

He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara in 1964 and taught at art schools in Carrara and Lucca. In 1983, he became chair of sculpture techniques at his alma mater.

Bigi first gained attention in Italy during the 1960s, developing a distinctive poetic vision that blends the metaphysical and surreal. In 1970, his first solo exhibition in New York introduced him to international critics. Over the years, he established himself as both painter and sculptor, with his sculptures praised for the liveliness and expressiveness of their figures.
