Salvo

Salvatore Mangione, known as Salvo (1947, Leonforte – 2015, Turin), was an Italian artist whose career moved from conceptual art to a celebrated return to painting. After his childhood in Sicily, he settled in Turin in 1956, where he lived and worked for the rest of his life.

From the 1970s, Salvo embraced traditional techniques with a distinctive, luminous use of colour—hypnotic, lyrical, and dreamlike. His canvases create an imaginary yet tangible world, a personal vision of reality that blends classical methods with a contemporary sensibility. Through his work, Salvo affirmed the enduring power of figurative painting in modern art.
