Nelle Tue Mani

Matteo Pugliese

6 June to 23 November 2019

This exhibition unveiled Pugliese’s bold reinterpretation of Leonardo’s Last Supper, centering on an eight-meter sculptural installation where only the hands of Christ and the apostles animate the narrative. Crafted in bronze and outlined on the wall, the hands speak through gesture and tension, embodying betrayal, fear, doubt, and devotion — a visual dialogue rich in emotional and spiritual resonance. Displayed alongside the installation were key works from his ongoing series—Extra Moenia, where figures emerge from walls as if in struggle with material confinement; and Custodi, archetypal guardians whose solidity contrasts with spiritual stillness.
